Collet – 25

Description

The Collet – 25 is the slotted clamping sleeve that grips the cutting bit inside the spindle of a CNC router. As the collet nut is tightened, the tapered sleeve closes evenly around the tool shank and keeps it centered during cutting. The 25 normally refers to the collet series, as in the ER25 system, which defines the nut and taper it fits.

Collets wear with use. Chatter marks on the cut edge, bits creeping out during a job, rust or burn marks inside the slots, or a sleeve that no longer springs open are all reasons to replace it. Clean the spindle taper first, snap the collet into the nut, then insert the tool and tighten with proper wrenches rather than by hand.

Each collet clamps one shank size, so tell us the series your spindle accepts and the diameter of the bits you use. A photo of the spindle nose or the old collet's markings is enough for the Top Laser team to match it.
