Limit switch

Limit switch

Description

A limit switch is a small sensor mounted at the axis ends of CNC routers, laser cutters and plasma tables. It sends a signal to the controller when the gantry or cutting head reaches a set point, which the system uses to find its home position and to halt movement before the axis runs into the end of the frame.

A weakening switch typically causes homing to fail or never finish, unexpected limit alarms, or an axis that overruns its travel and hits the frame. Inspect the actuating lever or roller for bends and cracks, clear away dust and chips, and check the wiring where it flexes with the machine.

Limit switches come in several forms: mechanical lever types, inductive proximity sensors, normally open or normally closed contacts, each with its own operating voltage. Send our team a photo of your current switch and any printing on it, and Top Laser will help you choose a suitable replacement for your machine.
