A side hinge connects a movable panel to the frame of a machine body, letting a door or access cover swing open while staying attached. On laser and CNC machines, hinges like this are used on lids, service panels and electrical cabinet doors opened for loading material, cleaning or maintenance.

A worn hinge lets the door sag, rub against the frame or fail to close evenly, which can upset any door safety switch and allow dust or fumes to escape from the enclosure. Tighten loose screws and clean the pivot first. If the hinge is bent, cracked, or the pin has play that tightening cannot remove, replacing it is the better option.
