Description

This 100W high-tension flyback transformer sits inside the power supply of a CO2 laser machine. Its job is to step the supply's internal voltage up to the very high level needed to ignite the gas in the glass laser tube and keep that discharge steady while the machine cuts or engraves.

A failing transformer often shows a weak or flickering beam, crackling or arcing near the high-voltage output, scorch marks or cracks on its casing, or a supply that cuts out when the laser fires. Switch off and let stored charge dissipate before opening the supply, and inspect the tube and its high-voltage lead too, since a worn tube can cause similar symptoms.
