Description

The StarFire SF-HC30A3 is a torch height controller (THC) for CNC plasma cutting tables. During a cut it monitors the arc voltage, which rises and falls with the distance between torch and plate, and drives the lifter motor up or down to keep that gap constant even when the sheet is warped or uneven.

If the torch dives into the plate, drags, lifts until the arc is lost, or leaves cuts with a shifting bevel, the height control loop needs attention. Inspect the voltage sensing leads and the lifter mechanism for slack first, and set the target arc voltage for each material, thickness and consumable set instead of using one value for every job.
