P80 Nozzle Plasma Nickel

Description

The nozzle, sometimes called the tip, is the front consumable of a P80 plasma torch. Its small central orifice squeezes the plasma arc into a narrow, concentrated jet, which is what produces a clean, narrow kerf. Its nickel plating helps the copper resist spatter and oxidation.

A healthy orifice is perfectly round. Once it turns oval, enlarges or picks up molten spatter, the arc spreads, the kerf widens, a bevel appears on the cut edge and dross builds up underneath. Avoid dragging the tip on the plate unless the torch is made for drag cutting, keep the correct standoff height, and start pierces from the recommended height to limit blowback.

Nozzles come in several orifice diameters, and the right one depends on the cutting current you run and the thickness of the plate.
