Singaporean focus lens

Description

This Singaporean focus lens is the final optic in the beam path of a CO2 laser machine. Mounted in the laser head, it concentrates the beam arriving from the last mirror into a small spot on the material, which is what allows the machine to cut and engrave. CO2 focus lenses of this type are commonly made of zinc selenide (ZnSe).

Because it sits just above the work, the lens collects smoke and resin quickly. Weaker cuts, a wider kerf, or a beam that no longer cuts the same thickness are early warnings. Inspect and clean it with lens tissue and an appropriate cleaner, and install it with the curved side facing up toward the incoming beam. Keep air assist running to shield it from fumes.
