Water flow switch sensor

Description

A water flow switch is a safety sensor in the cooling circuit of a laser machine. It detects whether coolant is moving through the line and signals the controller or laser power supply; if flow stops, firing is blocked so the laser tube or source cannot overheat.

A faulty flow switch usually causes one of two complaints: a water alarm that prevents firing even though the chiller is running, or, more dangerously, firing allowed with no flow. Scale, debris or algae can jam the paddle or float inside, so flushing the circuit and keeping the water clean helps it last. Install the sensor with the arrow on its body pointing in the flow direction, and tighten hose clamps so no air is drawn into the line.
