Nozzle

Description

The laser nozzle is the small tip fitted to the bottom of a laser cutting head, where the focused beam and the assist gas exit together. Its bore shapes the gas jet that clears molten material from the kerf, and it helps protect the lens and optics above it from spatter and smoke.

A damaged nozzle degrades cutting quickly. Look for a dented or out-of-round tip, spatter stuck around the opening, or burrs that appear on one side of the cut only, which suggests the beam is no longer centred. After fitting a new nozzle, check beam centring with the usual tape-shot method, and keep the thread clean so the nozzle seats fully against the head.
